Nodal and Periastron Precession of Inclined Orbits in the Field of a Rotating Black Hole .

چکیده
The inclination of low-eccentricity orbits is shown to significantly affect the orbital parameters, in particular, the Keplerian, nodal precession, and periastron rotation frequencies, which are interpreted in terms of observable quantities. For the nodal precession and periastron rotation frequencies of low-eccentricity orbits in a Kerr field, we derive a Taylor expansion in terms of the Kerr parameter at arbitrary orbital inclinations to the black-hole spin axis and at arbitrary radial coordinates. The particle radius, energy, and angular momentum in the marginally stable circular orbits are calculated as functions of the Kerr parameter j and parameter s in the form of Taylor expansions in terms of j to within O[j6]. By analyzing our numerical results, we give compact approximation formulas for the nodal precession frequency of the marginally stable circular orbits at various s in the entire range of variation of Kerr parameter.

Relativistic Effects in Proper Motions of Stars Surrounding the Galactic Center
We simulate the astrometric observations of stars moving close to the black hole in the Galactic Center. We show, that for orbits ≤ 10 AU and position measurements with the accuracy of the Keck Interferometer, the periastron motion of elliptical orbits will be measurable. The models of star trajectories neglecting the periastron motion will be easy to reject with the high confidence level. The ...
متن کاملBound near-equatorial orbits around neutron stars
Recent discovery of kilohertz quasi-periodic brightness oscillations of low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) has attracted attention to highly relativistic periodic motion near accreting neutron stars. Most models proposed so far involve (almost) inertial motion in the vicinity of the stars’ innermost stable circular orbits. In the present paper we study general-relativistic circular and eccentric o...
متن کاملThe Relativistic Precession Model for Qpos in Low Mass X-ray Binaries
The relativistic precession model for quasi periodic oscillations, QPOs, in low mass X-ray binaries is reviewed. The behaviour of three simultaneous types of QPOs is well matched in terms of the fundamental frequencies for geodesic motion in the strong field of the accreting compact object for reasonable star masses and spin frequencies. The model ascribes the higher frequency kHz QPOs, the low...
متن کاملTearing up a misaligned accretion disc with a binary companion
Accretion discs are common in binary systems, and they are often found to be misaligned with respect to the binary orbit. The gravitational torque from a companion induces nodal precession in misaligned disc orbits. We calculate whether this precession is strong enough to overcome the internal disc torques communicating angular momentum. For typical parameters precession wins: the disc breaks i...
متن کاملMotion of charged particles around a rotating black hole in a magnetic field
We study the effects of an external magnetic field, which is assumed to be uniform at infinity, on the marginally stable circular motion of charged particles in the equatorial plane of a rotating black hole. We show that the magnetic field has its greatest effect in enlarging the region of stability towards the event horizon of the black hole. Using the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism we obtain the b...
